What is the fate of the Attitude Era Podcast?

The fate? The very fate…Is in……MAH HANDS!

Hello there you intrepid traveller, you peruser of podcasts about explaining things! It’s your old pal Kefin here. If you’re not beside a fireplace right now, get your ass over to the mantelpiece right this second, because I’m fixin’ to have a fireside chat with you. No fireplace? Easy, just pop an inferno match on the network and stand near it. I’ll explain that one to Jo later. #SaveitfortheEpisode. So as you may or may not know, it’s been a fun and eventful year for me. I’ve worked a job that has made my social media presence a good deal trickier, Jo and I launched How2Wrestling and Adam, Billy and I finished up the PPVs of the Attitude Era. Also I was in a car accident. Since then I have gotten daily messages asking me whether or not Owen Hart is a piece of shit whether or not the Attitude Era Podcast was G-OO-NN-EEE.

Well friends, don’t say I didn’t warn you (I literally said this a million times) but we’re not done. And as a matter of fact not only are we not done, but we’re planning our shocking comeback and making moves, making moves, making million dollar moves for the next chapter of the AEPodcast. Without completely ruining the surprise, like that wrestler you want to return being snapped looking surly at baggage claim two towns over from the arena Raw’s at, I can reveal we will be doing a ‘retrospective’ episode first, where we attempt to lay down some final thoughts on WWE from ’98-’01. It’s still in its planning stages, but it’s an episode I anticipate there being lots of fan input, everything from questions to your thoughts on the Attitude Era. We’ll be examining whether or not the era lived up to the hype, how much of a role nostalgia played and which superstars were stand outs and maybe finally answer the question… Austin or Rock?

Paul Ellering is in NXT now, so of COURSE the AEPodcast is back.

But, I hear you ask, what then? Straight into Backlash 2001 and the inevitable Invasion episodes? Yyyyyyyyy..not yet. We obviously will do episodes on post-WrestleMania X7 WWE and the botched invasion angle, however I’ve made a conscious decision to wait a bit and review other things first. Why? Well, two things. Firstly I feel that just continuing straight on will make us get a bit lazy, and I never want the show to simply be a recapping of PPVs from ’98 to whenever. I want there to be a theme, a reason to review what we review. And secondly, by going straight in, I feel we’d run the risk of making what comes before and immediately after WrestleMania X7 seem like one big amorphous blob of turn of the century wrestling, which, despite appearances, couldn’t be further from the truth. So yes, we will review all of that stuff. But not yet.

So what will we review? I will be as vague as possible without being a full on troll, but the idea is to review attempts at revitalising, rekindling and recreating the Attitude Era or aspects of it. We’ve a few big ‘blocks’ of PPVs from across time and space that we think will encapsulate that, as well as make for great reviewing that has a purpose and an edge to it. We’ve also been propagating a big ol’ list of bono-episo’s we’d like to do. Which was all looking well and good until Billy f*cking Keable sent me an email proposing we review the World Body Building Federation. So there’s that.

This is what we look like now. Do you even recognise us anymore?

What you may/may not already know, is that I’ve been far away from both Adam and Billy for the last 18 months and recording had become something akin to an SAS operation to organise, if the SAS was held in in Jo’s dead Grandmother’s house. Hence why we had a very spotty release schedule towards the end, even by our standards. But just so you know, Jo and I are moving to a new city and we are living very, very close to Adam and Billy. I’m not going to say right now that means there’s gonna be WAY MORE EPISODES as we’ve got jobs to worry about, a city to move into and all that jazz. A gentle reminder that the voices you hear on those podcasts do other things most of the time to pay them gimmicks they send in the mail called bills. But it certainly means recording will be easier, and it means I’m happy to announce that the AEPodcast will be coming back at the end of the Summer.

I’m so happy with the amazing community we’ve been building the last few years, and so happy about the success How2Wrestling has been enjoying. It’s my hope that the two shows will have crossover appeal with the fans and we’re already planning to arrange guest spots for Adam and Billy on How2Wrestling episodes in the future to gush over their faves for Jo to enjoy! And speaking of, How2Wrestling has really been an absolute joy to make, and to see grow. I’ve been flabbergasted by the uptake of new fans, as well as lapsed or occasional fans using it to help them go on their own journey of discovery.

So, for those terrified about the future, calm down. For those who picked up on my not-so-subtle hints that we weren’t done, pat yourself on the back for being a proper calm deducer. Like Poirot. Poirot definitely listened to Q&AEPodcast and my appearance on Wrestling with Wregret. I am so excited for the next chapter, to be moving to a groovy new city and to start making more content. I’m already writing down 90s references I plan to crowbar in everywhere. Saved by the Bell: The College Years, anyone?
